Sometimes the card we are dealt isn't the card we want. It's not the card we are best suited for. It's not where we feel the most in our skin. It's not the space where we are going to shine. In fact, it's the place where we will feel beaten, maybe dragged through a series of turns for someone else in an effort to win their approval. Longing for a new start, some find it in moving away to college. Some find it in a teacher, or some other mentor who can slowly speak words louder than those that caused so much pain. They can break free one new tool at a time, a new set of life skills that allow us to reinvent ourselves into a better sense of who we already were, but may have not known it yet.
Racehorses are athletes. They are amazing bodies that are supposed to have a desire to run at top speed. Some cut it and some don't. Some cut it for a while and break down. Some flat out flunk out. Not every racehorse has what it takes to run, or to win. And like human athletes, even those at the top of their game have careers that end when they are still young with a lot of life years left ahead of them. Stallions and mares at least have some breeding potential. Geldings frequently aren't so lucky.
That's where YOU come in. Trust, care, love, comfort, boundaries. These are all things they need YOUR help in learning about. And just like YOU each ex-racehorse has a story to tell. Some stories have challenged them in ways that may be similar to YOURS. Come meet them and let them join YOU on YOUR journey. Be empowered together.
